Having made short work of the house work today (for once in my life), I saw the sun shining and decided to treat myself to a quick bike ride. Really glad I did - got some sun on my pale, vitamin deficient skin and managed a better pace than yesterday by a long way.
There were lots of flooded fields around us, but the birds were singing, it was almost spring-like! Hopefully the sun will come out for my long run tomorrow...

Events conspired against me this week and ParkRun was not a possibility. So I ran on my own (which isn't at all unusual for me). Well, me and a bunch of zombies. I set zombie chases to "on" (twice per hour) and both of those chases came in the first 5 minutes! But I managed to outrun the horde and escape the mind control, too...not a lot of people can say that before 9am on a Saturday. Now I just have time for breakfast, coffee (yum!) and a quick shower before becoming "football mum" for a few hours... Distance: 3.3 miles
Time: 36' 00" Average pace: 10' 54" Fastest mile: 10' 49" Type of run: Zombies, Run! (Easy run but with chases set to 2 x per hour) Cardio fitness score: 40 Usually I go for an evening swim on a Friday (cross training, y'know) but that's been scuppered today as my lovely husband has a gig tonight (Wham! Tribute Night of all things!), so I decided on a quick morning bike ride instead. My trusty mountain bike (Mike) is a B'Twin RockRider from Decathlon, with hydraulic brakes and everything! It was a birthday present when I started getting more into cycling and I realised that my old MB (Mavis) - that I'd bought on eBay for £30 - was actually several inches too small for me (well, I am 5' 8"). So I managed a rather slow (for me ) 9.45 miles at 12.7mph.
There was certainly a breeze picking up, and there were also some drivers determined to brush elbows with me, reminding me of why I used to confine my bike rides to 6am at weekends! But needs must, and it blew the cobwebs away. I think that Mike and I will be trying to get out more often from now on...watch this space! Today's run was my weekly intervals session. I used the AudioFuel "Power Up" pyramid interval session, which I've had for quite a while now (maybe the subject of my next review!) Today's session was pretty tough - I was expecting it not to be too bad as I'd had a complete rest day yesterday - but no. My legs felt heavy, my breathing felt difficult and I was sure I was running at my slowest - and windy conditions really didn't help (hair in my eyes, ugh!) Imagine my surprise when I saw that all of my miles were sub 10 minutes, the first time that's happened in quite some time. I was also exited to find my RHM race pack waiting for me when I got home!
